Beijing-Based Environmental Group Accuse Apple's Suppliers for Unfriendly Behavior to the Environment

Apple thinks of its environmental practices to be very important and takes value in abiding by these values. Apple also holds its suppliers and manufacturers accountable for their environmental practices as their names go hand in hand with Apple and therefore it is required that they must share the same values and work together to achieve them. However, regardless all these efforts that they have spent to achieve this value, accusations have been directed to Apple by a Beijing-based environmental group for using suppliers that are polluting the environment in China. Reports has reported that Apple has met with the environmental group to discuss these concerns and understand what them.

Reports have been released in August by the Institute of Public and Environmental Affiars,  that Kaear Electronics and Unimircron have been accused of discharging harmful wastes from their plants. The claims states that these harmful wastes differ between gas and water wastes that have contributed to the increase of the rate of people that suffer from cancer in a village near their plant. Meiko Electronics, the Japanese manufacturer, has also been reported to dump copper and nickel wastes into a lake in the city of Wuhan, China. This metals are toxic and dangerous to be dumped in that matter into a lake.

Carolyn Wu, the spokesperson for Apple, did not confirm whether the mention companies above are their suppliers, however she did say that,  “Apple is committed to driving the highest standards of social responsibility throughout our supply base.” They have also reported that Apple regularly meets with these Asian companies to assess their practices and to ensure that they follow the same values that Apple follows. If any of these companies do not meet the environmental standard that Apple expects, Apple do correct any violations they become aware of.
