iPod Creator Unveils His Latest Creation – The Nest

We all know Tony Fadell for his involvement in the creation of Apple’s iPod. He was previously a DJ, now an engineer and has overseen nine years of the iPod production and evolution. He was involved in the iPhones for three years now. Now we have his next big product. Guess what it could be?

A thermostat! Yes it is indeed that thing that controls the heating in your house. But Fadell wouldn’t make just a normal thermostat now would he? It  is an eco-friendly, Wi-Fi enabled, self-adjusting thermostat that you can control from anywhere in the world with your iPhone

It was yesterday that this news was outed by TechCrunch:

“Fadell’s new company, Nest Labs, is bringing Apple-level design and cool to those little boxes on the walls of a quarter of a billion US homes and offices that control the internal temperature. Why? Because all the ones on the market are ugly, they are too hard to use and they control a whopping 50% of the average American home’s energy budget. “

The thermostat is called “The Nest” and it sports an old-fashioned rotary dial design. However, there is nothing old fashioned about it, one of its cool features is a sensor that can detect human movement. So it you are not around and it sense that then it will change the temperature accordingly.

The Nest can also connect to you home network, which allows you to access the thermostat and its settings from a secure web portal, or your phone. It is planned to work for both iOS and Android platforms.

The Nest thermostat sports an old-fashioned rotary dial design, but don’t let that fool you — it’s very modern. Among its features is a set of sensors that can detect human movement. If it believes you’ve been gone for a while, it adjusts the temperature accordingly.

The Nest is also Wi-Fi capable and connects to your home network. This allows you to access the thermostat and its settings from a secure web portal, or better yet, your phone. It will have native apps for both iOS and Android platforms. This thermostat will cost you around $249, and you can buy it from BestBuy.
