VAMP for the iPhone – Accessory Review

The VAMP by V-MODA stands to be one of the hottest integrated headphone amplifiers for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, living up to the ideals which had made V-Moda’s Crossfade M-80 and LP-Class headphones the critically-acclaimed award winners that they are.

With the VAMP, the Japan-based V-MODA took the time in making a quality headphone amplifier with 150mW x 2 HiFi amplifier specifications, optical audio output support, digital to analog converter features, and even squeezed in a 2200mAh battery for extra power.

To top it all off, the entire VAMP is cased in a solid metal casing, giving iPhone units an added safety factor should users accidentally drop the phone.

As a headphone amplifier the VAMP is designed to bypass the iPhone’s internal digital to analog feature, implementing its own enhanced digital to analog capabilities, which translates to five times more sound quality over the standard iPhone’s hardware.

The extra battery adds 8 hours of continuous playback, and also features enhanced control over audio output levels, from adjusting hi and/or lo gain settings. The battery also does well as a general backup power source for the iPhone, even if the VAMP’s amplifier isn’t in use.

Working on two audio processing modes, the VAMP can ideally process audio into its more natural forms (PURE mode), and can enhance audio qualities (VQ – V-MODA eQualizer) with tighter bass and balanced treble tones.

With a sleek brushed metal finish, the VAMP’s exterior form factors can be likened to the finish of old vinyl records, and as it is all metal, it’s interior comes with a shock absorbing silicone, ensuring that iPhone units are at their safest in a case.

For audiophiles, the VAMP by V-MODA is the perfect complementary headphone amplifier for your iPhone.
