Gartner: Apple iPad Has No Real Competitors Through 2015

Research giant Gartner announced that the Apple iPad will be the most popular tablet through 2015. This followed an warning from Android based tablets that Apple will wait to see what they have to offer for next year. It is said that by 2015 that Apple iPads are expected to have sold 148 million tablets worldwide.

When comparing the Android powered tablet sales are expected to number 116 million in four years.  “We expect Apple to maintain a market share lead throughout our forecast period by commanding more than 50 percent of the market until 2014,” the company announced Thursday.

While it appears that the first and second positions are being occupied by Apple and Android respectively, the research finds that Microsoft’s Windows 8 could spur sales of 34 million in 2015. Although we expect that Microsoft’s sales to increase from nothing to 4.3 million by 2012, we think that the interest in the new OS could make this possible.

It’s a bit interesting to why Gartner believed that RIM could see 6 million QNX-powered tablet in 2012 grow to 26 million by 2015. This could be as the demand for the PlayBook appears to be cratering and uncertainty the new line of BlackBerry. Other advice that Gartner has for tablet makers, is to focus on screen quality and processor horsepower.
