First you have to restore iPhone 4 with custom iOS 5 ipsw with Redsn0w 0.9.9b5 to preserve the unlockable baseband.Then you are able to unlock iPhone 4 on iOS 5 with Gevey SIM.

How to update iPhone 4 to iOS 5 without updating Baseband – Redsn0w 0.9.95 :

Step 1: Connect your iPhone 4 with your PC via USB and start Redns0w 0.9.9b5

Step 2: Start Redsn0w, press on “Extras”  Then  “Custom IPSW” and then point Redns0w to iOS 5 ipsw firmware

 

Now Redsn0w will start building your custom iOS 5 ipsw firmware

Step 3: Hit on “Pwned DFU

Step 4: Now you need to make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to the computer before you click “Next”. This is very important for the completion of the jailbreak .

Now you will see a screen appear in front or you, and it will guide you to how to enter DFU mode. Hold the power button quickly and then while doing so you have to hold the home button too. After holding for a few seconds let go of the power button but keep pressing on the home button until the installation process begins.

Step 5: Open iTunes 10.5 then Restore your iPhone 4 to the Custom iOS 5 ipsw (the file name begins with NO_BB).

Now we can start using the Gevey SIM to unlock the iPhone 4 on iOS 5 .

Step 1:Insert the Gevey Sim in your iPhone 4 as shown below :

Step 3: Wait for 15 seconds , Then Call 112 and hang up within 2 seconds .

Step 4:Go to Setting and Turn on the Airplane mode and turn it off right away.Now you will see “SIM Failure” message on your iPhone and then you will see “No SIM Card Installed” .

Step 5:Now again you have to turn on the Airplane Mode and turn it off right away again until the “No SIM Card Installed” message shows up. Now you will see ‘SIM Failure’ message and after few seconds the signal will show up.
